Weather
Cloudy, with some sun. Windy on the ridge, a bit of snow. The summit was almost always in thick clouds.
Conditions
Good conditions, glacier with not many crevasses, the way is reasonably marked in the rocks, although it could get easy to get lost with more snow and fog.
Had to turn around on the summit ridge because of time (train to catch) and weather (summit in the fog / wind).
Timing
Saturday: Seeboden 9:00 -> Gmünder Hütte 12:30 (cycling) walking: 13:30->17:00
Sunday: Villacher Hütte 7:00 -> ridge 10:00 -> Villacher Hütte 12:00 -> bikes 15:30 -> Spittal 17:00
Access_comment
Train Wien->Villach->Spittal. Spent a night close to Spittal.
Cycling from Spittal to Maltatal.
Same way for the return.
Hut_comment
Villacher Hütte is unguarded and locked with the OeAV key. Very comfortable hut, very warm, lots of wood and things to cook with. There are also maps, books, tools, plates, lots of blankets,...

First time cycling with an ice-axe :) We got some funny looks along the way... but somehow, it wasn't so hard to walk up to the hut after cycling the whole morning with a heavy pack. The beer and Käsespätzle for lunch helped.
Saturday: cycle from Seeboden on the Millstätter See to Gmünder Hütte (~38km and up 700m). There's a nice cycling lane from Gmünd up the valley along the river, without any traffic.
It's not very steep until the last few kilometres (after the toll) We left the bikes around 1250m, and then walked up the trail to Villacher Hütte. Didn't see any one until we got the the hut, in which there were 2 people that were going down the next day.
Sunday: woke up a bit late (I need a more reliable alarm clock...), weather didn't seem so good (cloudy and rain was announced for the afternoon), but we still tried for the summit. Once on the glacier, we saw that there was lots of clouds and wind on the summit, so we turned around once we got to the ridge next to Steinerne Mandln (~3160m), where it was starting to snow.
Went back down, and of course, it was all sunny again and we could see the summit... but then the clouds came back and we were in the fog under the hut. Ate lots of blueberries. We tried to take a short cut to avoid walking too much along the tractor trail, it was more fun going through the forest, but not really faster. There are some markings on the trees, but it's easy to miss them.
Cycling down: 38km back to Spittal, where we took the train.
